Galapagos-On Everyone's Bucket List?

Updated: May 6, 2018

(Click here to see full text) A trip to the Galapagos Islands has always been on our bucket list and this past April it came to fruition!

We flew into Quito, Ecuador and spent two lovely days touring. First stop was historic Old Town with its rich history and beautiful colonial buildings.

Next was a stop on the equator line, an actual line where the earths centrifugal forces negate each other. We were very entertained doing fun experiments which showed how these forces work and how resistance is much less at the equator line. And the bonus is you are at least 2 pounds lighter there!

The next tour took us to the town of Mindo which is about 2 hours from Quito in the cloud forest. We visited a hummingbird feeding ground where over 20 species of hummers are found. Also on the tour was a butterfly greenhouse and a chocolate factory which explained the process of making chocolate by hand-start to finish.

Next we flew from Quito to the Galapagos where we boarded a small yacht to tour several of the islands. There were about 30 people on our boat and 2 naturalists and the crew, of course. We saw blue-footed boobies, albatross, marine iguanas, tortoises, frigate birds, sea lions and more wildlife, and spectacular ocean views. Some of favorite time was spent snorkeling with playful sea lions and beautiful sea turtles blissfully undisturbed by our presence. It was a 5 day cruise but we'd recommend at least 7 days to see more. (You have a 1/2 day of travel on each end of the cruise).

We met so many great people who shared our sense of adventure. Put this lovely destination on your "must see" bucket list.....you won't be disappointed! -Cheri
